ALUMNUS
DONATES TECHNOLOGY... In todays educational landscape
computers are common place and expected. Costs, however, of computers
and other technology continue to be high and out of reach for small private
institutions such as Markoma. This large hurdle has been recently overcome
through the generosity of Markoma alumnus Joel Thomas. Joel, a 1982 graduate,
is the Executive Vice President of Bluecurrent,
which was formed in 1993 as an IT asset management company. The founders
(brothers Joel, Shawn and Brian) identified an opportunity to help large
corporations more efficiently manage their IT assets, and proceeded to
sign up several Fortune 500 companies as clients. Today they run an internationally
recognized company with offices in Austin, TX, Kent, WA, Baltimore, MD,
Oklahoma City, OK, San Bernadino, CA, and one in the United Kingdom.
Joel
contacted the school and asked for our wish list of technology related
products. I didnt know what to expect, said Mike Brown,
Public Relations coordinator for the school. I asked him for everything
I could think of that we didnt have the monies to purchase.
Through Joels efforts, Markoma will soon have a computer lab in
place for our students, along with six laptop computers for the schools
use. Other technology related items will be coming in the near future
along with a technology assessment of our facilities and how best to integrate
the computers into the classroom. We want this to enhance the learning
environment for the students and teachers in the classroom, commented
Principal Ryan Galdamez. Picking up the first installment of equipment
the last week of March in OKC, was an eye-opening experience. The Bluecurrent
50,000 square foot warehouse was filled with isle after isle of racks
nearly 40 feet high that contained various computer products. One could
easily be enamored by the size and scope of Bluecurrent but Joel seems
to have both feet firmly planted. Some people just dont get
it. Its not about money. Joel humbly commented, Life
is about relationships; relationships with people and our God! Joel
credits God for the blessings he has received and appreciates the opportunity
to give something back. Our many thanks go out to Joel for his vision
and generosity. ...
